About Ùlpan

Ùlpan is a fast and effective way to learn a language. It has been used for over 50 years to great effect in Israel, where it originated, and in Wales, where Wlpan has brought thousands of adult learners to fluency in Welsh.

It is made up of 144 units, with additional revision sessions. This 324 hours of tuition can be delivered at varying rates: from nine consecutive weeks to around 2.25 years. A minimum of two 1.5 hour sessions on different days per week is recommended, especially when combined with regular weekly social activities using Gaelic.

Tutor training

For anyone wanting to teach the Ùlpan system, they first must successfully complete the tutor training course. This a specially created course to teach the practical skills required in order to teach the language. This is currently done through two days skills training and six days live teaching, which is assessed. Upon completion, a registered tutor can gain employment as an independent or through providing classes for public sector bodies, such as colleges and local authorities.
